Job Title:  part-time Canine Care Assistant

Reports To: Office Manager

SUMMARY Responsible for intake of dogs, including the care and handling of those dogs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Cleans and maintains kennel area of Acme Canine Facility, in such a manner as to provide an odor free and low stress environment for the dogs.

Feeds and provides daily care for all dogs in Acme Canine’s care.

Handles and controls dogs. This includes difficult to handle and potentially dangerous dogs.

Reports to the Owner any potential health or behavioral problems involving the dogs in Acme Canine’s care.

Maintains records of dogs involving elimination and feeding.

Light cleaning of offices, emptying trash, mopping of floors and cleaning of restrooms.

Walk dogs around the block in a controlled manner.  This includes using such training tools as chain, prong or e-collar and involves walking in all types of weather.

WORK SCHEDULE  The Kennel worker will be on a flexible work schedule depending on the number of dogs in for boarding/training.  Hours will range between 6:30am and 11:30am or 4:30pm and 9:30pm.  No break is included with this schedule. Days of work include Sunday through Saturday.

STARTING SALARY  $8.00/hourly as contract labor

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job does not exercise supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six months experience working with dogs is desirable; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills: excellent interpersonal skills, team building skills, analytical and problem solving skills, decision making skills, effective verbal and listening communications skills, attention to detail and high level of accuracy, very effective organizational skills, stress management skills, time management skills.  The incumbent must maintain strict confidentiality in performing the duties of the Kennel Worker. The incumbent must also demonstrate the following personal attributes: be honest and trustworthy, be respectful, possess cultural awareness and sensitivity, be flexible, demonstrate sound work ethics.
LANGUAGE SKILLS  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to co-workers and the general public. Requires considerable skill in the application of office methods and procedures.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
