Fidos in the Future…help us with our time capsule.
Dogs are our passion and because of this Acme Canine is expanding its facility to better serve Columbus area dog owners. The addition will be completed by mid-October and include an indoor training area as well as house large comfortable kennels for dogs in training or boarding. New year-round group classes are in the works as well as. To commemorate this growth Acme Canine is dedicating a time capsule to the dog of 2008.
The staff at Acme Canine invites children and adults everywhere to look around them and ask: What is it like to be a dog in 2008? Then bring or send this item to be preserved in our time capsule to be opened 25 years from now, in 2033.
Anyone may enter. Only one entry per person or per group is permitted. An entry consists of a photo or something that is likely to change in a dog’s life between now and 2033. The item can be anything, but no larger than a piece of paper (8 ½” x 11”). The item must belong to the person submitting it. (Items reflecting anticipated positive change in the future are particularly encouraged.)
A brief caption, in English, describing the item and the significance of it regarding dogs in 2008 and how this may change over 25 years should be included with the item. Entrants who do not speak English are encouraged to use an online translation tool, such as those available at Google.com, to translate a caption from their own language into English. Captions are limited to a length of 500 characters.
Deadline for submission is August 1, 2008
Items can be dropped off or mailed to Acme Canine, 1385 Franklin Street, Lewis Center, OH 43035 or emailed to training@acmecanine.com
A time capsule is a way to communicate the present day to the future. It may also be a way to preserve parts of the past - such as when a time capsule is opened and the old contents are 're-capsuled' along with current items. In addition, you can use a time capsule to place your predictions in, or your hopes of a certain project, and later on open the capsule at a time when you can 're-think' or see it with 'eyes anew'. A time capsule can be as simple as a shoe box full of items reserved (or even forgotten) on a high closet shelf until a later date. Other time capsules may need to last a very long time, in which case a strong stainless steel container is recommended, with a proper seal. Keep in mind that creating a capsule for unveiling at some future date is really a two sided adventure involving both you and those who will uncover it once again. Make sure that the items you select will add the element of surprise and discovery for those who open this curious treasure chest of history.
• Think of who will open this time capsule, and what would you like to tell them? Have fun with this step! Objects for time capsules need not be of high monetary value. Rather, choose things that reflect the spirit of the present. What is unique about today’s dog? Anything that captures the spirit of the present is a candidate.
• If you wish, write and enclose your own description of what it is like for a dog to live right now. Tell your future audience about daily life. Talk about ordinary day-to-day activities; current fads, fashions, attitudes, and trends; how much everyday objects usually cost; and anything else that you would like to say.
