Hey, everyone! Spike, here.
I remember when I was just a young pup. Ah…those were the days! Everything was brand new. Life looked like a playground just waiting to be explored. I’ll have to admit that I caused a lot of problems in those early days for my owner before they started puppy training. I was reminded of my thoughts further when I came across this little note I wrote the other day:
Thanks for picking me out of all of those other puppies! There were so many cute ones at the shelter and I watched a few of them get new families before me. I have to admit, that made me pretty sad. But I didn’t have time to be sad for long because you came along! I’m so excited about starting my life with you.
While we’re on the subject of my life with you, I thought it might be a good idea to bring up the subject of puppy training. I don’t know how many other dogs you’ve had before (but judging by the smell in this house, there’s been a few…), but puppy training is really important for me. Not only do I get to learn some great stuff but my owners also learned how to help me get acquainted with other dogs and what socialization is all about.
Puppy training has a lot to do with you. Yes, at my young age, my little brain is primed for learning new tricks and all that other good stuff, but I want to be the best puppy for you that I can be. If I’m going to do that, I need your help. I need you to lead me so I can learn how to follow you. And I need to learn how to listen to those other people you have living in your house too. Even the shorter ones who go to bed really early every night. So, can you do me a favor? Can you give those really nice people at Acme Canine a call? They have these puppy classes that sound like they would be great for a puppy like me. And they really know what they’re doing. I’ll be doing all kinds of great stuff before you know it!
I just know that living here is going to be a ton of fun. I can already see us playing in the back yard together and going on some really great walks around the neighborhood. Thanks again for taking me home.
…what was my name again? Oh, yeah! Spike!
Thanks for the cool name, by the way. I love it.
